NOWSHERA: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has said that the Zainab’s murder case and other such incidents in Punjab have proved that the province’s police system needs a revamp. He also said that political interference in the affair of police department in the province must end so as to stop occurrence of Kasur-like incidents.

He was addressing an oath-taking ceremony of the new office-bearers of Nowshera Press Club and a public meeting at ASC Colony here.

The press club’s new president, Jehanzeb Khattak, and provincial minister Mian Jamshaiduddin also spoke on this occasion.

The chief minister said that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police had become a role model for other provinces as they had made the police independent from any kind of pressure so as to serve the people. He claimed that they had ended corruption in the government departments in the province.

Mr Khattak said that they welcomed positive criticism, but the critics should compare performance of the past governments with the PTI-led government. He said that people should ask the politicians why they did not take solid steps to resolve their problems.

He said that the country could not make progress without honest and sincere leadership. He added that PTI had not taken votes from people on the promises of constructing roads, streets and sewerage systems.

The chief minister said that education was the only way of making progress and reducing the gap between the haves and have-nots. He said that they had appointed 60,000 teachers and provided 20,000 schools with proper facilities.

He said that they had constructed six-room schools and increased the number of teachers at each school from two to six to provide quality education to students.
