SUKKUR: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Sunday expressed condolence over the death of MPA Sardar Ahmed Ali Khan Pitafi, a senior member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).

Pitafi was suffering from cancer and died after protracted illness at a Karachi hospital on Friday noon. He was buried in his native village, Keenjhar, on Saturday.

The chief minister told journalists after offering condolence to late Pitafi’s sons in Keenjhar village, Ghotki, 78 kilometres from here, that the furore over sugar cane price was caused by federal government’s delay in granting permission for export of sugar.

He said that he had talked to the prime minister several times and raised the issue at the Council of Common Interests as well besides announcing subsidy for sugar mills so that the cane growers might not have to face problems.

He said that Sindh cabinet had reached a consensus over the removal of present IGP and his replacement with a senior officer.
