LUSUKU (Zambia): The Rhodesian African nationalists claimed here on Wednesday [Jan 3] that guerrilla units were engaging Rhodesian Security Forces in the River Zambezi Valley.

A spokesman for the Zimbabwe African National Union alleged that heavy casualties had been inflicted on the Security Forces. A statement from Salisbury said contact has been made with an armed band but said there have been no casualties.

Meanwhile, a Johannesburg report said the South African Police have arrested another 73 people in the area of Msinga, Zulula in connection with clashes last Dec 19 of Zwane and Sithole tribesmen during which 50 people were killed while 12 others were still in hospital suffering from injuries.

The arrests announced yesterday brought the total of people detained following the clashes to 120.
