LAHORE: Close contests were witnessed as five matches were decided in the 64th National Hockey Championships in Sukkur, according to results released by the Pakistan Hockey Federation here on Monday.

A brace from Mubashir helped Sui Southern Gas Company register a 2-1 win against Navy. For the sailors, Asad Aziz scored the solitary goal.

Newly formed Fauji Fertilizers Company (FFC) made their debut in the national event by defeating Police 2-1 with Yaqoob and Wasim Akram finding the target for the winners.

Mohammad Mateen was the lone scorer for the Police.

In a high-scoring duel, youthful Sui Northern Gas Pakistan Limited (SNGPL) downed Pakistan Air Force (PAF) 5-3. Ghulam Abbas and Ayub Ali, both scored twice while Rana Waheed scored one. PAF’s scorers were Mudassar, Adnan and Anees.

The two matches between provincial sides turned out to be one-sided affairs.

FATA trounced Islamabad 3-0 thanks to Yaar Jamal’s brace and Sindh thrashed Balochistan 4-1.
