HYDERABAD: Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal accused the mayors of Karachi and Hyderabad of bankrolling their party (Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan) and demanded investigations into the funds allocated for the two cities and being utilised by them.

“The mayors, Wasim Akhtar and Tayyab Hussain, are bankrolling their party and it must be ascertained through inquiries as to where the public funds meant for the two cities are being spent,” he told a news conference at the PSP office in Latifabad No. 6 on Thursday.

PSP president Anis Ahmed Qaimkhani, secretary general Raza Haroon, senior vice chairman Anis Ahmed Advocate and other party leaders, including Arshad Vohra, Iftikhar Randhawa, Nawab Rashid Ali Khan, Nadeem Qazi and Rizwan Gaddi accompanied him at the press conference.

Mr Kamal observed that most citizens of Hyderabad did not even know the name of their mayor. He alleged that the mayor had already pilfered around Rs400 million while people of this city were still crying for safe and adequate drinking water. Stagnant sewage found accumulated everywhere in the city added to their miseries, he said.

Calling MQM-P leaders “vultures”, he condemned them for “using the word Mohajir for their misdeeds”.

The PSP leader also accused his MQM colleagues of the past of having isolated Mohajirs within their own country and claimed that hundreds of thousands of Urdu-speaking people were left to feel disowned when these leaders started raising slogan of a separate province for them.

“They (MQM-P leaders) talk of a separate province only when they are sitting in Karachi and avoid doing so while they are in Hyderabad,” said Mr Kamal.

He said that they (MQM-P leaders) would be “buried through the ballot”. He added that the people of Sindh faced injustice in terms of census.

Despite making their best efforts and bringing councillors from outside to Karachi, the MQM-P leadership failed to collect more than 7,000 people for the recent show of strength held in Liaquatabad.

Mr Kamal also commented on the infamous Model Town incident and Baqir Najafi judicial commission report, and said his party was with Dr Tahirul Qadri [head of the aggrieved side, Pakistan Awami Tehreek] and stressed that injustice must be condemned and justice dispensed.
