SIALKOT: The WWF Pakistan and the Sialkot Tannery Association on Wednesday signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to undertake mutual cooperation for the European Union-funded project International Labour and Environmental Standards (ILES) Application in tanneries.

At a ceremony here, the WWF introduced clean production and pollution prevention techniques for the tanneries in the city.

WWF’s senior officer Sohail Ali Naqvi said the organisation would conduct environmental audits of the registered tanneries in Sialkot.

He said the project aimed to promote sustainable economic growth by introduction of cleaner production and pollution prevention techniques in the processes of tanneries.
