PESHAWAR: Civil society activists have set up an organisation in the memory of legendary social worker and environmentalist late Maureen P. Lines (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz).

Headed by Dr Ali Jan as its chairman, Maureen Lines Foundation (MLF) would work to carry forward the Maureen’s legacy. The organisation also includes Maureen’s closest friends Raza Kuli Khan Khattak (chief patron), Sirajul Mulk and others.

The foundation will continue Maureen’s charitable work and ensure that her adopted Kalasha family of orphans is groomed and educated according to Maureen’s last wish to become future ambassadors of their community, said a statement issued here on Saturday.

Maureen P. Lines was born in England in 1937, and after travelling around the world she eventually made Pakistan her home in 1980 where she passed away in March 2017. She was buried in Peshawar’s Gora Qabristan.

Maureen Lines had formed Kalash Environmental Protection Society in Pakistan and Hindu Kush Conservation Association (HKCA) in UK in 1995. In a recent HKCA Board of Trustees meeting organised by Keith Howman at Shepperton UK, Dr Ali Jan was appointed as the honourary vice-president of the association. The board also decided to extend full support to the MLF’s mission.
