SWABI: Members of Islahi Jirga have demanded that the Swabi district administration impose ban on one-wheeling which was putting lives of youngsters in extreme danger.

Speaking at a meeting here the other day, they pointed out that one-wheeling had witnessed an increase across the district during the last one year, but the authorities had failed to keep a check on the menace. They said even as the police had admitted that the wheelie was tantamount to committing suicide they were not bothered to curb it.

The jirga members pointed out that in many areas the youngsters had formed wheelie groups to challenge each other, adding the risky practice was getting ever popular with the youngsters despite the clogged Swabi roads.

Gul Mast Khan, the jirga president, said one-wheeling was a horrific hobby, and demanded that police should launch an operation to curb it. Zarjab Khan, another jirga member, said crackdown on those who prepare and rent motorbikes for such activities should also be launched. He said several deadly road incidents had been caused by one-wheeling.

Meanwhile, police officials have appealed to the parents to prohibit their children from getting involved in such activity.

OPEN SESSION: District Police Officer Sohail Khalid has assured the people of creating an environment where the police and people could interact with each other while working for maintenance of peace in Swabi.

He was addressing a khuli kachehry here the other day, the third such event since he took charge a few days ago.

“With the cooperation of people police can effectively eradicate crime,” he said.

On demand of the people he announced that an operation would soon be conducted against drug pushers in Yaqubi region.
