If you are interested in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) — 3D modelling technologies, you will be glad to know that Google has launched www.poly.com — an online library of 3D objects and scenes to be shared, searched, downloaded and remixed for various projects and assignments.

The site is simple to explore as the homepage is stocked with thousands of 3D objects and scenes. But you can go through easily searchable categories given in the left panel, like ‘animals and creatures’, ‘people and characters’, ‘technology’, ‘art’, ‘food and drink’, ‘nature’, ‘transport’ and a lot more.

Selecting any object will open a new page in the same browser, for instance, if you choose heart, the site opens with a new page having the 3D heart in the centre. You can view it from any angle by moving the cursor of your mouse in all directions.

You will notice the options below the object such as, Like, Share, Download or Create a GIF (by selecting aspect angles and animation speed, etc., where you might need the help of an elder). And if you want to use the object, remember to give credit to its creator/author.

According to Google, the goal in creating the platform was to make it easier for developers who may not otherwise have the resources to create virtual and augmented reality experiences. So even if you don’t have to use the 3D objects for now, you can still check the objects from all sides and even show your younger siblings how wonderful 3D objects looks.

The site is also good for the budding developers to see and learn about VR and AR technology.
