SIALKOT, Aug 27: Robbers plundered cash, gold ornaments and other valuables, besides driving away with vehicles worth millions of rupees in 16 strikes here in the last two days.

Two armed men drove away with a car (STL-9696) after snatching its keys from Sialkot International Airport Limited Director Malik Islam at Rangpura, on the Raja Road.

At Mundeyki Goraya, Daska, truck driver Wasim Khan took away the heavy vehicle (GLT-9011), laden with 125 bags of rice worth Rs1 million.

Two armed men deprived trader Bashir Ahmad of his motorcycle (STC-3440) near Baiyanwali Pulli (Philora). On the bank of MR link canal, two armed persons snatched Rs2,400 in cash from Shabbir and his friend, and drove away with their two-wheeler.

Robbers stormed into landlord Chaudhry Sultan Muhammad’s house at Shehtabgarha, Uggoki, from where they took away cash, jewellery and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees after holding the inmates hostage.

Unidentified armed men escaped with cash, a mobile phone set, rifle and electronics worth Rs100,000 from shopkeeper Arif’s house.

On Daska-Motra-Sialkot Road, three robbers deprived a young couple of Rs150,000 in the form of cash and gold ornaments at Lakra Khurd village.

Thieves took away the motorcycles of Qari Abdul Ghafoor, a prayer leader, and Sajjadul Hassan from Muzaffarpur.

In many other incidents, robbers and thieves took away cash and valuables from a doctor and others. Relevant police have registered cases.

STILL AT LARGE: The district police have yet to arrest two prisoners Shabbir alias Kala and Aslam alias Acchu, who escaped from the Pasrur judicial lock-up on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Pasrur police have registered a case against suspended ASI Muhammad Yaseen and five police constables, Afzal, Waris, Khalid, Sardar and Shafqat, for breach of duty.

Wheat stolen: Wheat worth Rs1.5 million has been stolen from food department’s godown with the connivance of food officials at Pasrur.

The theft surfaced when Pasrur tehsil Nazim Maqsood Ahmad and Pasrur deputy district officer (revenue) Nadeem Sarwar conducted a surprise raid at the godown in Pasrur city here on Wednesday.

The Nazim later told newsmen that 5,000 bags of wheat containing 100 kilograms of wheat a bag were found less weighted. When weighed, each bag was containing 80 kgs of wheat. Moreover, stones were found in 1,000 other bags.

When asked, officials claimed that the bags were brought from Shakargarh, said the Nazim.
