KOHAT: An officer of the tehsil municipal administration, Waqas Ahmed, has demanded security for his family, saying he has been receiving threats from Afghanistan for carrying out anti-encroachment operation against temporary shopkeepers and venders in the Kohat city’s bazaars.

Talking to this correspondent on Sunday, he said that the local traders had lent the front space of their shops on rent to the Afghan nationals and tribesmen for up to Rs25,000 a month.

He said that whenever he launched operation against them the local government representatives and TMA officers asked him to return the impounded items.

“I have been getting threats from Afghanistan. I have informed the deputy secretary, Shafiqur Rehman, about it in writing, but instead I was asked to stop the campaign against Afghan refugees and tribesmen,” he said.

He said that a separate shed and parking places had been assigned to the hand cart owners and vehicles, but due to patronage of the local business community they refused to abide by the orders of the magistrates and assistant commissioner.

HASHISH SEIZED: The police foiled an attempt of smuggling hashish from tribal area to Karak district and arrested a man and his wife at Kohat tunnel toll plaza on Sunday.

SHO of the Mohammad Riaz police station told mediapersons that they stopped a car and on search recovered six kilogrammes of hashish.

He said that Zafar Iqbal and his wife were presented in the special court which remanded them in police custody after registration of FIR.
