KARACHI: Former federal minister and city president of the Pakistan Peoples Party Dr Asim Hussain met Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan chief Dr Farooq Sattar at the latter’s residence on Sunday.

An MQM leader told Dawn that it was a courtesy call by the president of the PPP’s Karachi chapter, who was accompanied by his family and MQM Senator Khushbakht Shujaat.

However, a brief statement issued after the meeting said that Dr Sattar asked the PPP leader to play his role in arming all elected local government representatives, including mayors and deputy mayors, with financial and administrative powers in accordance with Article 140-A of the Constitution.

The close aide to former president Asif Zardari was urged that “injustices to the urban population of Sindh” must be stopped forthwith.

It said that Dr Asim assured the MQM-P leader of his full cooperation in solving problems the urban areas of the province were facing.
