British Library opens Harry Potter anniversary exhibit

A collection of items relating to the background and history of the Harry Potter franchise will be put on display at the British Library.

The Library’s new exhibit Harry Potter: A History of Magic, at the London Museum, features items ranging from J.K. Rowling’s early drafts of the young wizard’s story to artefacts and records from the real-life people and events that inspired characters in the book series.

Items set to be on display include the first recorded mention of the phrase “abracadabra” which Rowling adapted into the killing curse, “Avada Kedavra” and the tombstone of Nicolas Flamel, a real historical figure who inspired a character in the book series.

Also included are early drafts of every book in the series, including notes and annotations that Rowling scrawled on the pages early in the writing process.

The early versions of the books include deleted sequences, notes from Rowling’s editors and early character concepts, including series villain Voldemort being portrayed as a “red-eyed dwarf.”

The exhibit will also spawn two new books of its own Harry Potter: A History of Magic and Harry Potter: A Journey Through A History of Magic, detailing the items on display in the exhibit.


Track list for Sia’s upcoming album

Sia shared on Twitter the details concerning her upcoming holiday album titled Everyday is Christmas, including the release date and track listing.

“Sia’s making your holidays brighter with Everyday Is Christmas, out 11/17,” the singer-songwriter wrote alongside a photo of the album’s cover that features frequent collaborator, dancer Maddie Ziegler, wearing a green and red wig.

The track listing, which consists of 10 original songs, includes titles such as ‘Snowman,’ ‘Underneath the Christmas Lights,’ ‘Candy Cane Lane’ and ‘Puppies

are Forever,’ along with the lead single, ‘Santa’s Coming For Us.’


Hocus Pocus remake on TV

Fan favourite Halloween film Hocus Pocus will get a TV remake at the Disney Channel.

A Disney Channel rep confirmed that the network is developing a reimagining of the 1993 comedy horror movie. Scarlett Lacey will pen the script, with original producer David Kirschner as executive producer.

It is reported the movie will feature a new cast. The original starred Omri Katz, Thora Birch and Vinessa Shaw as young Salem, Mass., residents who accidentally summon a trio of witches (Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker).
