SAHIWAL: The University of Sahiwal on Wednesday announced opening of admissions to eight disciplines in both the masters and four-year BS programmes for 2017 session.

The admissions were opened after the higher education department (HED) issued a notification to this effect.

The last date for submission of applications is Nov 17.

This was announced by Campus Director Dr Shafiq Hussain while talking to the media in his office.

HED allows intake for 2017 session

He said the admissions were delayed because of financial constraints and some legal matters being faced by the varsity. Though the varsity was established in 2005, the provincial government failed to appoint a regular vice chancellor there.

Assistant Registrar Mr Asghar said the varsity had wrote both to the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Punjab, and the provincial department (HED) seeking guidance to resolve the issues being faced by it.

Dr Sahfiq said as after the 18th constitutional amendment the provinces were autonomous in deciding such matters, the higher education department allowed the varsity to open admissions to both the programmes.

The varsity is offering admissions to computer science, business administration, chemistry, applied psychology, English, BBA Honours, LLB and economics.

Varsity sources said Commissioner Babar Hayyat Tarad had personally taken up the matter with the HED high-ups for removal of legal hurdles barring fresh admissions to the varsity.

Dr Sahfiq claimed that soon the issues like shortage of faculty and books in the varsity’s main library would also be addressed.
