Asim, Zubair reach quarters

KARACHI: Asim Gul and Zubair Raja cruised into the quarterfinals of under-16 singles event after registering contrasting wins in the inaugural Beaconhouse Open National Junior and Senior Tennis Championship here on Monday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Asim trounced Aniq Kashif 6-0, 6-0 while Zubair recovered from a set down to beat Asher Mir 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

In other matches, Rayyan Javed overcame Ammer Ismail 6-0, 7-6 while Noor-e-Mustafa thrashed Mathew 6-0, 6-0. Talented Hashish Kumer overpowered Mushab Umair 6-0, 6-0.

In the under-12 singles first round, Sagar Hussain beat Usman Ahmed 8-0 while Zain Ehtisham was declared winner over Ibrahim Nouman Yousuf 1-0 after the latter retired.

In the under-10 singles first round, Duruf Das outplayed Sameer Ahmed 8-0.

In soft tennis quarter-finals, Robin Das bt Saad Ahmed 5-0 while Kamran Ahmed bt Amanval (Lahore) 5-0. Eibad Sarwar Hussain Khan outplayed Imran Ali 5-0.
