KHAIRPUR: Three die of hepatitis-B

KHAIRPUR, Aug 24: Three persons died of hepatitis-B in the Ghazi Chandio village, Kingri taluka, on Friday.

Those died were identified as Bakhsh Ali, 27, son of Manthar Chandio, Nawab, 10, son of Ali Gohar Chandio, and Rashid Ali, son of Hazoor Bux.

Activists of different NGOs said at least 31 persons had died of hepatitis-B in the village last year but health authorities had not taken any steps to control the disease.

Meanwhile, three children have died of cholera.

GROWERS PROTEST: Growers of Machhar and Mehrab minors continued their protest against water shortage on Friday by observing a token hunger strike in Hingorja.

The engineer, irrigation, Mohammad Hassan Sangi, along with other officials, arrived at the scene and held talks with the protesters.

The growers complained that hand-made inlets in the minors and cutting of trees planted on the banks had created problems.

The engineer assured the growers of water supply and desiltation of the minors.

On his assurance, the growers called off their protest.

Meanwhile, growers of the Imam Minor held a demonstration and observed a token hunger strike at the Imam Minor bridge on Saturday against water shortage and for desiltation of the minor.

SPURIOUS PESTICIDES: Growers of Razidero, Methani, Agra, Jado Wahan, Satabo and Rapri, Gambat taluka, have complained that spurious pesticides are being sold in the taluka.

KILLED: Four armed men killed a peasant in the Nara taluka, Khanwari police station jurisdiction, on Friday night.

The peasant, Wahid Bux Lashari, 35, had shifted to the taluka four years back.

TRANSFERRED: DPO Fateh Sher Joyo has transferred the SHO, Tando Masti police station, Mir Mehdi, after a double murder in the Koro village.

Gul Hassan Lohar was appointed as the new SHO.

The DPO also appointed Shabbir Jamali as the SHO of the Ranipur police station.
