QUETTA: Balochistan Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch has said the provincial government is committed to eliminating morbidity and mortality relating to vaccine preventable diseases.

He said the government’s commitment could be gauged from the fact that it was spending more money on immunisation campaign across the province.

Speaking at an EPI review meeting attended by representatives Gavi, the vaccine alliance, commissioners, deputy commissioners, deputy health officers and EPI (Expanded Programme on Immunisation) officers here on Friday, he said that all possible steps would be taken to create awareness among the masses of far-flung areas about the EPI programme.

The two-day meeting discussed challenges and bottlenecks faced by immunisation teams working in the province.

Later, the health minister distributed medical equipment, motorcycles and vehicles among district health officers taking part in the immunisation campaign at a ceremony held at the EPI headquarters.
