KARACHI, Aug 22: Inspector General Police Syed Kamal Shah, on Friday, urged people to assist police department in monitoring the performance of Madadgaar-15 to improve its services.

Speaking as the chief guest at a ceremony to inaugurate sixth Madadgar-15 centre in Saddar Town at Artillery Maidan Police Station, he maintained that Madadgaar was a quick responding institution, which is not supposed to conduct investigation.

“It has been envisaged to provide all services to the masses in case of emergency that includes immediate police help in case of law and order situation, family disputes and unavailability of utility services,” he said.

However, he admitted that police was still unable to spread the network in the whole city owing to the lack of resources.

“What we need is more vehicles, equipment, space of its headquarters and people’s assistance and appreciation to transform the Madadgar-15 into a service-oriented institution,” he said.

Mr Kamal said that people wanted police to be a civilized force, which could be approached in times of distress. He urged the elite of society to set up committees for monitoring the performance and response of Madadgar-15.

He said, “Nobody can judge the performance of police better than citizens.”

He cited various incidents during which people including children sought help from police by dialling 15-telephone number and police responded immediately and foiled the bids of crime.

Earlier, DIG Operations Tariq Jamil presented a detailed report on the performance, achievements, activities and response of Madadgar-15. He informed that the institution had been established to minimize the existing gulf between people and police.

He deplored that people used to hesitate while approaching police stations due to the uncivilized attitude of police.

Later, the IG inaugurated the new building of Madadgar-15 Saddar Town at Artillery Maidan police station.
