KARACHI: President of the Pakistan Basketball Federation (PBF) and Sindh Olympic Assoc­iation (SOA) retired Brig Rashid Malik, who died after protracted illness on Sunday, was laid to rest at the Army Graveyard on Monday.

The deceased, who was 72-year-old, is survived by a widow, a son and a daughter.

His funeral was largely attended by former international basketball players and officials, SOA office-bearers, armed forces personnel, relatives and friends.

His soyem will be held at his residence house No 105, Khayaban-e-Seher, Street 22, DHA Phase VI, on Tuesday at 11:30am.

Born in Sargodha, Rashid, who was also vice-president of the POA, was also an active basketball player during his hey days. He led Pakistan to historic fifth-place finish in Asia.

He also served as director general of Pakistan Airport Security Force and was recipient of Tamgha-i-Basa­lat for gallantry and Sitara-i-Imtiaz.

He also commanded the Pakistan National Day parade at Rawalpindi in 1987.

Rashid, who founded security company after his retirement from army, was also chairman of all-Pakistan security agencies association and ex-chairman of world association of detactives, USA.
