SUKKUR: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah warned on Saturday that attempts were being made to cause a rift between parliament and state institutions.

“Those who are trying to weaken parliament are not sincere with the nation,” he said while addressing a public meeting in Sukkur.

Mr Shah also took exception to former president Pervez Musharraf’s allegations that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was behind the murders of Benazir Bhutto and her brother, Murtaza.

Says those trying to weaken legislature not sincere with nation

Questioning the timing of Mr Musharraf’s remarks, he asked why had the former military dictator remained quiet for 10 years.

He dared Mr Musharraf to return to the country like former PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto if he was brave enough and stop trying to prove his innocence by blaming others while living in a foreign country.

Mr Shah alleged that pieces of evidence were removed from the crime scene after the assassination of former PPP chairperson in a gun-and-bomb attack in 2007 and no search for the killers was carried out.

Turning to Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan, Mr Shah said how a person who felt shame in wearing the Sindhi cap could look after the province.

Sindh needed people like Shah Inayatullah, Makhdoom Bilawal, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, Mr Shah said, stressing that the system could not be changed using filthy words.

“We know how to respond in kind. But we have been trained to serve the people, not use filthy words,” he said.

Sacrifices had to be made for changing and running the system, he said.

Mr Shah said real politicians served the people and led the nation in the right direction.

They did not flee abroad, but competed in the political arena, he said.
