LARKANA, Aug 20: A no-confidence motion was passed against People’s Party Parliamentarians-backed Awam Dost Panel’s Larkana Taluka Nazim Nazir Ahmad Shaikh at the taluka council session here on Wednesday.

The motion was tabled by Abdul Razzak Brohi and seconded by Asghar Brohi.

As many as 17 members voted in favour of the no-confidence resolution and six opposed it. Two members did not attend the session.

The convener of the council said proceedings of the session would be referred to the Sindh government and the Election Commission for further action.

Earlier, supporting the motion, Dr Mujtaba Samtio, Ali Gohar Bhatti and Mohammad Munir Sargani accused the Nazim of inefficiency, favouritizm and ignoring members of the taluka council. They said he had failed to eliminate corruption in the council.

Nisar Ahmad Shaikh, Imdad Shaikh, Akbar Shaikh opposed the resolution, saying the session should be adjourned till Thursday so that the Nazim could attend it and clarify his position.

But the convener, referring to sub-sections 3 and 4 of section 63 of the Sindh Local Government Ordinance, said he was bound to dispose of the council’s business on Wednesday.

When contacted by this correspondent, the ousted taluka Nazim denied the charges levelled against him in the resolution. He said he had strengthened the financial position of the council.

He said he would file a constitutional petition against the decision.

Meanwhile, Sindh PPP president Nisar Ahmad Khuhro removed Nooruddain Abro from the post of taluka president of the PPP and also suspended his membership.

In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Larkana PPP information secretary Asghar Shaikh said Mr Abro’s membership was suspended as he had violated the party discipline.
