KARACHI: A 19-year-old girl was found shot dead in the North Nazimabad area on Thursday, police said.
They added that the body of the burqa-clad girl was recovered from a narrow street near the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi. She sustained multiple bullet wounds, the Shahrah-i-Noorjehan police said, adding that it was suspected that she was killed in the name of ‘honour’.
The investigators collected three spent bullet casings fired from a 30-bore pistol.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Later, she was identified as Hajira, a resident of the same locality. “Initial probe revealed that it appeared to be a case of honour killing,” said Karachi Central SSP Irfan Ali Baloch.

SSP Baloch said the deceased was a resident of Umer Farooq Colony. She had married a year ago against the wishes of her family, he said.
Two suspected extortionists shot dead
Two suspected extortionists were shot dead in an ‘encounter’ in Orangi Town in the early hours of Thursday, police said.
The extortionists, who were later identified as Ejaz Pervez and Mehmood Ali, were leaving after receiving Rs10,000 extortion money from a doctor when they were challenged by a team of Iqbal Market police officials. In an ensuing encounter, the police killed both the extortionists and recovered two TT pistols with bullets, the money and a mobile phone, according to the officials.
Earlier on Tuesday, Dr Irfan lodged an FIR (226/17) at the Iqbal Market police station under Sections 385, 386 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the ATA against unidentified suspects. The following day the complainant approached the police to disclose that the extortionists had called him and agreed to receive Rs10,000 at Mai Hawwa Goth.
