PESHAWAR: The city police on Monday said a girl student of private medical college who had gone missing earlier this month has been recovered from Karachi.

A police statement issued here said the 24-year-old student had gone missing on Sept 8 and the Pishtakhara police had registered an FIR into the incident on Sept 9.

SSP operations Sajjad Khan said social media rumoured that she had joined militant Islamic State group and turned into a suicide bomber, but these reports were baseless.

He said the student was facing education-related issues and had leftist leanings. He said she had medical history of depression and was on medication.

He said due to her leftist leanings and educational failures, she had developed problems with family and was snubbed by her mother and harshly treated by her brother.

The SSP said the girl tried to flee her home and seek asylum due to harsh treatment from family.

He said the letter found in her room had no content to show that she was on her way to Syria; rather, she was liberal and was trying to move abroad.

He said the police had recovered her from Karachi and in her statement she had informed police that she went to Karachi via Khyber Mail and there she rented a house. The police officer said the girl wanted to teach her family a lesson.
