KARACHI: A sessions court on Monday directed police to record applicant’s statement about the death of an eight-year-old boy from electrocution and register a case against K-Electric if a cognizable offence was made out.

Shafiquddin Siddiqui, a local leader of Jamaat-i-Islami, through his lawyer moved an application under Section 22-A of the Criminal Procedure Code and submitted that his nephew Azaan Siddiqui died from electrocution outside his house in Model Colony on Aug 23.

The applicant maintained that they had lodged complaints with the power utility to fix the electric pole fault before the incident but the complaints remained unattended. He submitted that the alleged negligence on part of the KE took the life of his nephew, adding that he had approached the Model Colony police station to lodge a case against the officials of the power utility, but the police did not entertain his plea.

While impleading the chief executive officer and some senior KE officials as respondents, the lawyer asked the court to direct the SHO concerned to order registration of an FIR against them.

After hearing both sides, district and sessions judge (East) Abdullah Channa directed the Model Colony SHO to record the statement of the applicant under Section 154 of the CrPC and if cognizable offence was made out, register an FIR accordingly and submit a compliance report.
