LAHORE: The Punjab University and the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences have signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Gambia to collaborate in various academic disciplines.

At a ceremony here on Saturday, PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Moeen Nasir said the PU would waive off fee and provide free accommodation to University of Gambia’s faculty members who wanted to pursue their higher studies here. He said the PU would also extend every support to enhance academic collaboration between the two universities.

Gambia’s Vice Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Yaya Sireh Jallow said Pakistanis were playing their role in promotion of higher education in Gambia. He thanked the PU VC for extending maximum support to the University of Gambia.

University of Gambia VC Dr Faqir Anjum said the university would seek cooperation from the Punjab University in the fields of medical, engineering and science. He invited PU faculty members to train University of Gambia’s faculty members and students in different disciplines.

Meanwhile, the UVAS said it would assist the government and the University of Gambia in education, research, training and development of the livestock sector.

UVAS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said it had given scholarship to two Gambian students for their PhD studies at the UVAS. He said the Gambian delegation had also sought scholarships for undergraduate students and short training programmes for Gambian professionals, besides other joint research and developmental programmes for the development of the Gambian livestock sector.

Prof Pasha briefed the Gambian delegation on the UVAS academic, research, extension and training programmes and services and clinical and lab facilities.
