GUJRANWALA: Punjab Minister for Anti-Terrorism Ayub Kandi stressed sectarian harmony and tolerance for promotion of peace in society.

He was talking to the religious leaders of in a meeting at the Circuit House on Thursday.

The minister said peace in Pakistan could be achieved through cooperation of religious leaders and scholars whose useful suggestions were always accepted by the government.

He said the government had taken measures to maintain peace in the country and the peace committees at district levels were functional to promote sectarian harmony at the grassroots level.

Commissioner retired Captain Muhammad Asif and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed Khan briefed the meeting on the steps being taken for promotion of peace during Muharram.

They said arrangements had been finalised to provide security to 7,268 Majalas and Tazia processions and control rooms had been established in all the districts of the division.

Inspector General of Police retired Captain Arif Nawaz Khan also spoke.

Punjab Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Jahangir Shujah Khanzada, AIG Special Branch Faisal Shahkar, Deputy Commissioner Aamir Jan and others were present.

LIBRARIES: The World Bank has released Rs20m for the renovation of libraries.

Gujranwala Municipal Cooperation Mayor Sheikh Sarwat Akram told Dawn on World Bank had announced Rs400m for Gujranwala city.

He said the bank released Rs20m to provide the facilities at the Jinnah Library and Justice Din Muhammad Municipal Library.
