THATTA: A man sustained a bullet injury in the head during an exchange of fire between highwaymen and police here on Tuesday.

The injured was identified as Naveed Iqbal Arain, friend of a local sugar cane trader, Hanif Memon.

According to eyewitnesses, two motorcycle riders intercepted Hanif when he came out of the National Bank of Pakistan Makli branch accompanied by Naveed Iqbal after drawing money. The criminals were about to flee after depriving the two of cash, mobile phones and other belongings, when they raised a hue and cry, inviting attention of a police patrol.

Citizens, victims and police chased the robbers. In an exchange of fire between police and the robbers, Iqbal received a bullet in his head. Two outlaws identified as Ghulam Nabi Soomro and his cousin police constable Ghulam Rabbani, son of Nawab Ali Soomro, of Shikarpur were also injured.

The police immediately rushed the critically injured Iqbal Arain to Karachi and intensified the investigation to locate facilitators of the robbers.
