RAWALPINDI: Death sentences of four militants were confirmed by Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations.

The decisions were earlier announced by the military courts, the ISPR said.

The convicts were involved in offences of terrorism, including killing innocent civilians and attacking law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and the armed forces.

The statement added that the men on death row were involved in killing 16 people and injuring eight others. Weapons were seized from their possession.

The military courts also announced various incarceration periods for 23 other convicts on Friday.

According to the ISPR, the militants on death row are: Riaz Ahmed, son of Ghulram Khan, is a member of a banned organisation and was involved in attacks on the LEAs and the armed forces which resulted in death of eight police officials and Frontier Constabulary personnel, and injuries to five policemen.

He was also involved in destroying a government school in Aligrama.

Hafeezur Rehman, son of Habibur Rehman, another member of a banned organisation, is convicted of killing three civilians.

Muhammad Saleem, son of Muslim Khan, is a member of a proscribed group and was involved in attacking the LEAs and the armed forces which left four soldiers dead and one injured.

Kifayatullah, son of Dilresh, confessed to being a member of a proscribed organisation. He was involved in attacking the armed forces which resulted in the death of a soldier and injuries to two others.

The convicts admitted to their offences before the magistrate and trial court.
