National Geographic Kids is dedicated to introducing and educating kids about the world, nature and science.

Their series, National Geographic Readers, has books for different age groups, with numerous titles from different fields of interest.

The books are graded according to different reading levels and the text and themes are selected accordingly.

As National Geographic has some of the best collections of photos on every topic under the sun, the books are filled with captivating photos to make the text more interesting and understandable for young readers.

On Safari is a title graded as ‘Pre-reader’ so there is just a sentence or two on each page with a large life-like photo of an animal you are bound to encounter on a safari. There are elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and hippos. Meet the elephants, lions, giraffes, zebras and hippos.

Simple, repetitive lines help new readers with word recognition, but the book could have had some facts too that would have made it more educational.

The next book we are looking at today is of Level 3, Titanic. This one does justice to being a book by National Geographic as the spectacular photographs are accompanied by relevant details about the doomed ship and interesting insights about its passengers.

What makes the book more interesting for readers of today is the combination of photographs of the actual ship, its wreckage, staff and passengers, with those of the movie, Titanic, that made the sunk ship come alive for us today.

I found this reader more interesting than the first one, maybe because I am an adult and need more text and information when reading.

There are many more titles in the series that cater to different tastes, all carrying spectacular photographs on each page that hold your gaze more than the words.
