CHARSADDA: The district education department has claimed that 35,029 students of private educational institutions have enrolled in government schools in Charsadda district due to the good performance of the latter.

District education officer Siraj Khan told reporters here on Wednesday that provision of facilities, recruitments on merit, effective check and balance system and better exam results of students were restoring the people’s confidence in government schools.

“The reputation of government schools in the people’s eyes has improved due to better exam results and provision of facilities and therefore, more and more students from private schools are now seeking admissions there,” he said.

The DEO said coordination and contacts between parents and teachers were vital for provision of quality education to the children and increase in literacy rate.

EDO attributes trend to facilities and better exam results

He said most students of the government schools belonged to poor families and their parents were uneducated and thus, causing some problems for the former’s education.

“Despite all problems, 16 students of the government schools from Charsadda district got some of the top 20 positions in the Peshawar education board exams, which is a big achievement,” he said.

Mr Siraj said matriculation course was taught for two years in government schools though it lasted three years in private ones.

He said the performance of government schools in the district was up to the mark.

The EDO said Charsadda’s government schools had been provided all possible facilities, including teachers, and that more teaching staff members would be recruited.

He said 88,619 male students had been enrolled in a total of 521 boys primary schools in the district, 5,043 in 50 middle schools, 20,091 in 68 high schools and 13,332 in 18 higher secondary schools.

Mr Siraj said 127,085 male students were enrolled in a total of 657 government schools in the district.

He said high and higher secondary schools had been given the required furniture, while furniture would be given to all primary schools in the district to end ‘tat culture’.

The EDO said the schools had got playing areas and sports material, while IT labs had been established in 54 high and higher secondary schools in the district.

He said solar systems had been installed in 60 per cent of government schools to cope with energy crisis.

Mr Siraj said funds were being spent through PTCs in government school transparently, while the school monitoring system had been strengthened.

THESIS DEFENDED: Bacha Khan University Charsadda registrar Arshad Khan Bangash on Wednesday successfully defended his PhD thesis.

Mr Bangash did research on ‘sociological study of honour killings’ under the supervision of Prof Rasheed Khan, while Prof Hafeezur Rehman of the Quaid-i-Azam University acted as his external examiner.

Dean of the social sciences faculty at the University of Peshawar Prof Taj Moharram and chairman of the same university’s sociology department Dr Niaz Mohammad were also present on the occasion.
