Why only Sharifs?

Published August 23, 2017

THE primary purpose of the Panama revelations has not been served as, instead of targeting corrupt elements altogether, it held accountable only one particular family and thus disrupted the entire political process.

Such a state of affairs has thus raised several questions such as why only the Sharifs?; what about those who have systematically been involved in mega corruption scandals?; did the Sharifs only indulge in financial corruption?; what about the leaders of other political parties? and why should only the politicians be brought to justice, why not the godfathers of other institutions?

If there are articles 62 and 63 for politicians, then which article of the constitution shall question those non-political godfathers?

Besides, what about other cases? The Memogate has now become a fiction; the Rental power scam has disappeared from the scene; Arsalan Iftikhar is rejoicing with his retired father, the ephderine culprits are either politically active or living a luxurious life in their palaces; Kamran Kiyani, the brother of a former army chief, who has been indicted for billions of rupees corruption in the DHA scam; and, last but not the least, retired general Pervez Musharraf who played havoc with the constitution.

The fate of all such cases remains undecided. Thus the unusual delay in disposing of these cases and the unusual efficiency of the court in the Panama scandal have raised many questions on the impartiality of our justice system, and it alludes to the conspiracy which PML-N leaders have been talking of.
