ISLAMABAD: The government will constitute a committee to recognise the services of “unsung heroes” and their contributions in the fields of literature, education, research and culture, an adviser to the prime minister said on Sunday.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage Irfan Siddiqui was speaking at a book launch held at the Islamabad Club.

The book, Pidrum Sultan Boo, is by former Pakistan Television managing director Syed Akhtar Waqar Azeem.

Mr Siddiqui said this committee would work under the supervision of Iftikhar Arif, and books will be published by the government to highlight the work of unsung heroes for the future generation.

He said: “Unfortunately, there is no system to highlight the work of unsung heroes. Due to the lack of great writers, our new generation and present society is facing issues of morality. We need books and writers to save the future of the youth.”

Mr Siddiqui said the services of Akhtar Waqar’s father, Prof Syed Waqar Azeem, for the education sector would be remembered.

Waqar Azeem, who wrote around 50 books, was a symbol for others who always guided, helped and encouraged the youth, he said.

He added that Azeem was an institute for others, and such individuals are needed in this age to protect civilisation and promote values of tolerance, unity, peace and love.
