KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead by an unknown person in the Buffer Zone area on Monday, police said.

They added that the suspect was riding a motorcycle when he was attacked by an armed motorcyclist near Erum Shopping Centre.

He sustained a critical bullet wound in the abdomen and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

He was identified from the CNIC found in his pocket as Mohammad Irshad, a resident of Surjani Town.

“He might have been killed by a citizen over a botched robbery attempt,” said Central SSP Muqaddas Haider.

He said that the dead man had been arrested on robbery charges eight times in the recent past.

Separately, a man was shot dead in North Karachi.

The police said that Riaz was passing through Bilal Colony when a lone gunman riding a motorcycle attacked him.

The wounded man was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police ruled out the possibility of a robbery bid behind the killing as the suspect did not take away anything. The victim originally hailed from Bahawalpur.

In another incident, a man was found shot dead in Memon Goth on Monday, police said.

They added that the body of the man with a single bullet wound in the head was found in a chilli crop near the Dumloti Wells. The victim was identified through the CNIC found in his pocket as Abdul Rehman, 37, a resident of Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan, said Memon Goth SHO Gulzar Ali Tunio.

He said circumstantial evidence suggested that he was brought there by two persons who may have gunned him down elsewhere.

The police were trying to locate his relatives to ascertain a probable motive and identity of the killer.
