Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan on Monday warned the PML-N that it will "ruin itself" if it does not distance itself from former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his family.

"The PML-N has a golden chance to distance itself from Nawaz Sharif and his corrupt family," he said while addressing a press conference in the federal capital on Monday. "The [Panama Papers] case was against the Sharif family, not the party."

Criticising Sharif's plan of travelling from Islamabad to Lahore via GT Road, Khan said Nawaz Sharif was using tax money to undermine the Supreme Court on purpose. He accused Sharif of paying people to come on streets so that he can later claim that the public stands with him.

"He [Sharif] accused PTI of trying to derail democracy when we protested on the streets against him," the PTI chief recalled. "Isn't he trying to do the same by using tax money for personal gains?"

The PTI chief also asked Sharif to disclose the "name of people or the institution he [Nawaz] thinks are conspiring against him".

Khan also alleged that Sharif was trying to attack the two institutions "that the nation trusts the most": the court and the army.

"On whose behest is he doing this," he asked.

"Five judges gave a unanimous ruling [against Sharif] and yet the former premier refused to accept the SC's decision," he said, adding that the refusal of Sharif to accept the court's decision gives the message that the laws are different for the rich and the poor.

The PTI chief also demanded that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) comply with the SC decision and reopen the Hudaibiya case. He also criticised the reappointment of Ishaq Dar as the finance minister, saying that the latter was accused of corruption. He further accused the PML-N leadership of paying its ministers to "buy the next election".

'Tahirul Qadri's return is a positive omen'

Applauding Pakistan Awami Tehreek chairman Tahirul Qadri's decision to return to Pakistan, Khan said it was a positive omen for the country, adding that PTI will welcome him. He also announced that PTI vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi will meet Qadri on his return.

"Their issue is a serious one," Khan said, referring to the 2014 Model Town incident. "At least 14 people were killed in broad daylight and the joint investigation team's report has still not been released."

'The complainant has to bring proof'

When asked about Ayesha Gulalai's allegations against him, the PTI chief said an impartial team must decide if the case is "genuine" and needs to be investigated further.

"The case must be investigated, but not by a committee that comprises their [the ruling party's] own people," he said, adding that the committee formed by parliament has been setup "without any precedent".

When asked about Gulalai's allegations of corruption in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's government, Khan said he would not comment on that.

He also demanded justice for Ayesha Ahad, who claims to be Hamza Shahbaz' wife, saying that she has been denied justice for the past seven years.
