The newly-formed federal cabinet, in its first meeting on Friday, vowed to "take forward the vision" of former premier Nawaz Sharif and decided to assemble every week.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. He congratulated the federal ministers and ministers of state on becoming a part of his decision-making circle and expressed his gratitude to the PML-N leadership for endowing their trust in him and nominating him to run the country as its premier.

In his first address, Prime Minister Abbasi outlined his plans for the future and promised to continue what he called "the journey of progress and democracy" initiated by Nawaz Sharif.

He reiterated that the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, as well as all other ongoing projects for energy infrastructure development, economic revival, and the fight against terrorism to promote peace in the region and the world, would be carried out in true letter and spirit.

PM Abbasi additionally vowed to complete all 10-year developmental plans within the next 10 months. He was of the view that the cabinet will simultaneously work on both short term goals and long-term targets.

The prime minister also reportedly assured the moral and diplomatic support of Pakistan to the people of Kashmir in their fight for the right of self-determination.

Abbasi directed all ministers to give presentations on their ministries in the coming days to apprise him about their working. He told the cabinet that all ministers can approach him at any time and assured them that he would always be accessible to them.

It was decided that the cabinet meetings will be convened almost once in a week. The prime minister assured the participants that they were free to raise any issue in the meeting so that it could be addressed.

The future meetings of the cabinet will be held in the evening to avoid disruption in official work, Abbasi added.

He also encouraged his cabinet ministers to increase their usage of technological resources so as to enhance efficiency in governmental departments.

Abbasi also asked his cabinet to participate in parliament sessions and assured them that he would also be attending all sessions of the Parliament.
