LAHORE: Forty national, departmental and divisional teams including PAF and Wapda have confirmed their participation in the inaugural Agha Arshad Memorial Three-a-side Basketball Tournament starting at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences here on Wednesday.

A basketball legend in Pakistan, late Agha Arshad represented the country in international contests from 1969-78 during which he also captained the national side. After retirement, Arshad also coached the national team on their 1988 tour of Malaysia and the 2016 SAF Games in India.

Announcing the draws on Tuesday, the event organising secretary Asif Iqbal said the participating teams have been divided into eight groups. Thirty-two matches will be played on the opening day of the tournament.

The quarter-finals will be played on Aug 4 while the semi-finals and final will be staged on Aug 5.
