ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will undertake an official three-day visit to the Maldives from today (Tuesday) at the invitation of Maldives President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.

The prime minister will attend the celebrations of 52nd Independence Day of Maldives on July 26.

Mr Sharif will also hold official talks with the Maldivian president.

A number of memorandums of understanding and agreements for cooperation in various fields would also be signed, said a statement issued by the foreign office on Monday.

“Pakistan attaches high importance to its relations with the Maldives which are characterised by cordiality, mutual respect and commonality of interests,” it added.
