KARACHI: The administrative judge of antiterrorism courts remanded on Thursday a close aide of slain former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in police custody in two cases pertaining to explosives and illicit weapon.

Police said that they arrested Mushtaq Ali Bhutto, said to be a cousin of the assassinated chairperson of the PPP, who also served as an adviser during one of her stints as premier, on Wednesday in a Gulshan-i-Iqbal locality for allegedly keeping explosive materials and unlicensed weapon.

The investigation officer inspector Sarwar Khan produced the suspect before the administrative judge and sought his custody for questioning.

The court handed him over to police on physical remand till July 22 and directed the IO to reproduce him along with progress report at the next hearing.

The cases were lodged under Sections 4/5 of Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Section 23(1)(a) of Sindh Arms Act, 2013 read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 at Gulshan-i-Iqbal police station.
