OKARA: The Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) has called a strike for showing solidarity with the Okara District Bar Association (DBA) across the province on Friday.

DBA president Syed Zahid Bokhari and lawyer Chaudhry Riazul Haq told a press conference on Thursday they had to call the strike as District and Sessions Court Judge Bedar Bakhat had failed resolve a standoff arising from a brawl between a lawyer and a civil judge. The row stemmed from exchange of words between the lawyer and the judge in the courtroom before the Eidul Fitr break.

VISIT: Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) Chairperson Saba Sadiq and Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mehmoodur Rasheed separately visited the house of the boy in village Lakkhan who was allegedly tortured to death in the house of MPA Shahjehan in Lahore.

The 16-year-old Akhtar was reportedly tortured to death by Fauzia, daughter of the MPA, while his sister, Attiya, was injured.

Ms Sadiq reached the village, some 38km from Okara at night. She offered condolence to Akhtar’s family and assured it of provision of justice. Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed also visited the victim’s family and offered condolences.
