MITHI: The vice chancellor of Sindh University (SU) Jamshoro on Wednesday announced setting up Thar campus of the varsity in Sadiq Faqir Degree College in Mithi.

Dr Fateh Mohammad Burfat said the classes of Thar campus would start from January, adding that the process of posting the required staffers was in progress.

He said the step was taken on the direction of Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to provide quality education to Thari students. Suggestions were being sought from activists and the elected members of Thar regarding the number of departments and disciplines, he added.

Dr Burfat said several hundred youths from Thar would be able to get education in their own district. The Peoples Party (PPP) MPA from Thar, Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, thanked the party leadership for the decision to give another ‘gift’ to the people of Thar.

Thar Deputy Commissioner Dr Abdul Hafeez Sial, SU Registrar Saleem Chandio and other prominent figures were present on the occasion.
