KOHAT: The police said they arrested 89 criminals, including an auto thief and three drug smugglers, besides recovering arms and hashish, during a crackdown here on Tuesday.

The action was carried out in Togh Bala, Lachi, City, Cantonment, Jungle Khel, Ustarzai, KDA, Gumbat, Jarma, Shakardarra and in Muhammad Riaz Shaheed police station limits. The recovery included three small machine guns, four shotguns, two repeaters, three rifles, 11 pistols and 20 kilogramme of hashish.

The district police officer received an information that car had been stolen from district Tank. During checking at Kohat-Hangu road, the police stopped a suspect car, which turned out to be stolen. Driver Asghar Mehmoodd was arrested and sent to prison.

Personnel of Muhammad Riaz Shaheed police station, during a routine check at Friendship toll plaza stopped a Bannu-bound passenger coach. Upon search, they recovered 12 kilogramme of hashish from three persons identified as Roshan Gul, his wife Naheeda Bibi and Sadaqat Bibi. They belonged to district Mardan. They were sent to prison on judicial remand.

A boy, 17, committed suicide following a brawl with his parents in Chambai village of Jarma town. His body was shifted to women and children hospital where after autopsy it was handed over to relatives. He had shot himself with a pistol.

NADRA OFFICIAL FINED: Civil Judge XII Riaz Aslam Ravi fined the zonal director of Nadra Rs6,000 for multiple mistakes of wrong registration of name and occupation in an identity cards.

The son of one Gulbat Khan had moved the court against Nadra for registering his father’s name as Gulbat Khana which is a woman name. Despite repeated applications the error was not removed.

The judge ordered that the fine money should be deposited with the court by Nadra for payment to the affected man as compensation.
