KARACHI, Aug 8: The public sector schools in the city would remain open on August, 14, in connection with the Independence day celebrations in the country, an official communication said.

A circular to school heads says it is incumbent upon the teachers and students to celebrate the occasion in their respective educational institutions.

It also called upon the teachers to use the occasion to highlight the ideas of the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, beside holding different events in this connection.

In his letter to school heads, the Deputy District Officer, Ghulam Mustafa Abbasi, informed that despite the fact that there was an emergency due to heavy rains in the province, and the government had extended summer holidays, the schools would remain open on August 14.

On the day, in order to commemorate the historic event of inception of Pakistan, the students be assembled, flag hoisting ceremonies be held, after which national anthem be recited, while speeches be delivered with reference to the day, the official added.

The school heads have further been urged that they should conduct speech, essay-writing and poetry contests among the students, while the prize-winning essays, poems and articles may also be pasted on wall magazines of the schools.
