GUJRANWALA: The Punjab Food Authority on Saturday sealed production unit of a bakery chain and disposed of 300 cakes prepared with substandard material.

PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal told the media that the authority received information that huge quantity of substandard food items and sweets were being prepared at Gourmet Bakers.

A PFA team raided Gourmet Bakers and Bismillah Sweets and inspected quality of the production. The team found unwholesome stuff and disposed of 720kg sweets and 840kg raw material of sweets.

The team imposed a fine of Rs1 million on the bakers. Mr. Amin said substandard colour and chemical were used in production of sweets.

STUDENTS FAINT: As many as 25 students of a seminary fainted after eating unhygienic food here on Saturday.

According to reports, students of a madressah were attending Mehfil-i-Naat at Mian Sansi. Chicken ‘shawarmas’ ordered from nearby shops were served to them. The students fainted as soon as they ate ‘shawarma’. They were rushed to nearby hospitals.
