KARACHI: Ace rider M. Sajjad piloted home a brace of winners including The Quest Cup as two favourites and as many outsiders shared the day’s honours in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Tuesday.

Running under new name Sweet Lady, formerly dark bay mare Sab Key Passand upset the applecart galloping to six-and-a-half lengths victory over Sweet Sereena to claim The Quest Cup.

Chestnut horse Race settled third beaten by short head while favourite mare Afreen completed the board further edged by head.

The field was reduced to seven horses following withdrawal of Shandar Love before the race.

The triumph of Sweet Lady gave owner Jawaid Sattar and trainer Yousuf S their first win.

Sajjad completed double while guiding favourite mare Tanya to a splendid eight lengths victory over mare Blue Fairy in the next race to clinch the day’s feature event combined scale order I, II and III run over four-and-a-half furlongs.

Chestnut horse King’s Hand was placed third four lengths away while bay horse Doctor completed the frame three-and-a-half lengths further behind among five horses.

At the outset, rank outsider bay horse Mission Possible created quite a stir while getting the better of fancied mare Charlotte by two lengths to land the opener.

Bijli and Delta Queen followed the top two in the same order on board.

Making amends of successive loses, favourite three-year-old bay filly Cherish obliged all and sundry imposing to six lengths victory over Almeer in the second race.

My Beauty had to be content with third place baten by neck while Popular Pride completed the frame among four starters as Rainbow and Sonia were withdrawan before the race.

Apart from rider Sajjad, owner Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara and trainer Mohyiddin also enjoyed a double following success of Cherish and Tanya.

Meanwhile, according to an announcement, the next Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 28 if the Eid-ul-Fitr falls on Monday, June 26.
