COLOMBO: The Northern Province of Sri Lanka is embroiled in an internal controversy involving its Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran.
Last Wednesday a no-confidence motion was handed over to Governor Reginald Cooray against Chief Minister C. V. Wigneswaran. It was signed by 21 provincial council members. The chief minister had called for resignation of two provincial council ministers over corruption allegations.
The chief minister on Monday backed down from his earlier insistence that the two ministers against whom he had ordered a fresh probe, have to go on leave till the pendency of the inquiry.
