LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has announced launching a campaign against Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif by exposing corruption in the province every second day.

Announcement was made by Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, MPAs Aslam Iqbal and Shoaib Siddiqui, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Andleeb Abbas at a press conference on Monday.

Chiding the chief minister, the PTI leaders said he was crying hoarse about corruption-free Punjab and good governance in it while the ground realities were telling horrible stories about corruption.

Mr Rasheed said the Sharif brothers had received commission worth billions in the motorway project in 1990. He demanded re-investigation into the motorway corruption scandal in the light of the statement by FIA Ex-Deputy Director Inamur Rehman.

He alleged the government had committed corruption worth Rs2.5bn in the Saaf Pani Project as out of 116 filtration plants in Lahore, 60 were lying out of order, 40 plants were producing dirty water while only 16 were running properly.

He said the government had initially allocated Rs130bn for the Saaf Pani Project in Punjab but it removed the first team and then raised the project cost to Rs190bn. He alleged the government was installing filtration plants worth Rs2m at the cost of Rs12m. He said the Daewoo company was given contract for Rs16.9bn while payments were made worth Rs22bn.

Mr Rasheed said the whole nation was looking towards the outcome of the JIT inquiry into the Panama case, and added that the Sharif brothers had only a Qatari letter for their rescue which was rejected by the Supreme Court. The London High Court decision about Sharif family’s London apartments was very important, he pointed out.

Stating that the Sharifs’ cronies were hurling threats on the JIT, he warned the PTI would take to the streets after Eid if threats did not stop.
