ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) have introduced an e-ticketing system on Murree Expressway and the Peshawar-Lahore Highway which would enable people to pay fines on the spot.

According to an official statement, DIG Abbas Ahsan said the e-ticketing system has been implemented to replace the customary method of ticketing throughout the N-5 North Zone, which extends from Peshawar to Lahore GT Road and includes the Murree Expressway.

While inaugurating the system, Mr Ahsan issued the first ticket using an electronic device on Murree Expressway.

He said the system is compatible with contemporary standards and is initially being run on a trial basis on the Murree Expressway to assess the system.

An NHMP official told Dawn that because of the new system, tickets will be issued through a printer that will be available at all offices.

“In the past it was very difficult for people and families to pay fines, especially at night. Now, people will be able to pay the fine on the spot. In case cash is unavailable, they can hand over their licences or registration books,” he said.
