Young pugilists excel at Murad Memorial boxing

KARACHI: Chairman DMC South Malik Mohammad Fayyaz and MPA Javed Nagori distribute prizes among young boxers at the Kakri Ground on Tuesday.

KARACHI: Nouman Ahmed, Mohammad Ismail, Sajjad Ahmed, Ziuddin and Ahmed Zia won their respective bouts on the final day of the Ustad Murad Bakhsh Memorial Boxing tournament at the Kakri Ground here on Tuesday. The tournament was held under the auspices of Karachi South Boxing Association.

The winning boxers displayed high level skills and stamina to emerge as winners. Later, Chairman DMC South Malik Fayyaz praised the young pugilists and said no wonder the District South is known as the hub of boxing in the country. “The boxers from this district, especially from Lyari, have earned laurels for Pakistan both in international and national events which is a matter of great pride for us,” he said.

Fayyaz, along with Lyari MPA Javed Nagori who was the chief guest on the occasion, distributed the prizes and shields among the victorious boxers.

Nagori, in his speech, lauded the oganisation of the boxing event and said: “Sports are a great source in building a society and contribute greatly towards grooming healthy minds and bodies,” he said. “The govt is promoting sports events and youth activities in order to provide more opportunities to people in the province to remain positive and contribute towards a healthy society,” he said. “There is no dearth of talent here, just a matter of encouraging the youth.”
