TAXILA: The Attock police have launched a smart verification alert system (SVAS) for snap checking at the entry and exit points of the district.

District Police Officer (DPO) Zahid Nawaz Marwat said the police had revamped the search and checking system through different software and biometric devices with the deployment of computer literate staff.

He said the system was linked to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), the immigration and passport office, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and mobile phone service operators. It also has vehicle registration data to detect forged identifications.

“This latest system helps police ascertain the identity of suspected elements as well as proclaimed offenders, fourth schedulers and criminals.”

He said the data of 4011 people had been verified at various entry and exit points so far.

He said the staff deployed at anti-vehicle lifting cells was also equipped with details of all stolen vehicles.

“We can get details about a vehicle by putting its registration number into the system.” He said through the system the data of 5,200 vehicles had so far been verified.

Meanwhile, the anti-car lifting cell Hassanabdal recovered a car snatched from Multan.
