SWABI: Swabi Tehsil Nazim Wahid Shah has warned the doctors at the district headquarters hospital that if they failed to change their behaviour they won’t be allowed to work in the health facility.
Talking to reporters here on Monday, he alleged that he along with hundreds of people took the body of his brother-in-law to the hospital for carrying out an autopsy four days ago, but the autopsy room was locked.
He said that he contacted the medical superintendent and asked him to arrange doctors, but to no avail, irritating about 300 people carrying the body. Later, he said the agitated people broke open the lock of the autopsy room, but he cooled them down.
However, he said on the following day doctors supported by the medical superintendent staged a protest demonstration and accused him (nazim) of applying pressure tactics on the doctors.
Mr Shah said he would write letters to the officials concerned against the misbehaviour of the doctors.
He warned that the people would run a campaign if the doctors failed to deliver.
Following the doctors’ protest, MPA Babar Saleem has reportedly criticised the latter for holding agitation instead of performing their duty.
He alleged that the MS had the backing of provincial health minister Shahram Khan Tarakai, but it did not mean that he should support the ‘unjustified’ actions of doctors. “The MS should keep in mind that he is a public servant and as answerable to them,” he warned.
It is learnt that the local jirga members have also started effecting reconciliation between the doctors, MPA and the tehsil nazim, but the latter has allegedly rejected the offer.
However, when contacted MS Dr Mohammad Shafiq told this correspondent that the staff was present at the autopsy room, but even then the nazim along with his relatives had broken the lock of the autopsy room.
Replying a question, he said: “We conduct autopsy when the police give us a report about the incident. However, the nazim didn’t have such a report and used abusive language against the doctors and also threatened me,” claimed the MS.
